Safeguarding and Family Support

Chapel End Junior Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. This means that we ensure that everyone working in our school has successfully completed the necessary clearances to enable them to work with children.

We have staff members who are specifically trained, experienced and nominated as the Designated and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) within school. These staff include the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher, the Assistant Headteachers, the Online Safety Lead and the Pastoral Lead.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Safeguarding is not just about protecting children from deliberate harm.  It relates to aspects of school life including:

  • pupils’ health and safety
  • meeting the needs of pupils with medical conditions
  • providing first aid
  • educational visits
  • intimate care
  • internet or online safety
  • senso internet monitoring
  • website filtering
  • appropriate arrangements to ensure school security, taking into account the local context.
